Welcome to the choreography centre L'espace Palermo
Continuous creative workshop
Founded in 2005 by Giovanni Zappulla and Annachiara Trigili, the choreographic centre L'espace is a place for artistic production and confrontation. It is the space where the Danza Movimento Naturale (DMN) method, the result of more than twenty years of these two dancers' and choreographers' work on energy, body and movement, comes to life and develops. In this context, the Zappulla DMN company creates an artistic environment of excellence that allows professionals, amateurs and spectators to explore dance in its most varied and sometimes unexpected declinations: choreographic platforms, performances and interdisciplinary public rehearsals. Furthermore, the training continues through internships with external teachers, conferences, debates, video screenings, thematic events.
The Xinergie project was born from the meeting of two associations: L'espace and Quarto Tempo. These entities participate together and actively in the development of Sicilian cultural life through production, training and awareness-raising. Xinergie is a place to experience and provides opportunities for anyone who wants to appreciate the universe of performance dance and contemporary art.
Our Projects
Transnational synergies
InToDaTe
"Innovative Tools for Dance Teachers" is a project of exchange and dissemination
of their respective creative and training methodologies, both in choreography
through the Natural Movement Dance method of choreographer Giovanni Zappulla
and in the direction and dramaturgy of the Polish artist Agata Życzkowska,
the collaboration will give rise to an intense phase of transmission of the respective
approaches and will conclude with a selection and creation of performances that will be
included in the Festivals Dissidanza 2023 and U-New 2023.
The Dance Highway project is an innovative tool for the creation of
a network of contemporary dance innovation and research operators,
in order to stimulate the exchange of tools and know-how to enhance
or create new festivals and artistic programming opportunities.
But also workshops and meetings where experiences and models sometimes
far apart harmonise and become productive!
The Viral Visions project was created at the height of the Covid19 pandemic to
return the rightful place to choreographic but more generally contemporary art,
considered by governments to be unnecessary in times of Coronavirus. Manuals,
meetings, workshops and conferences to pick up where we left off...
L'espace ASDC has been dealing with training since 2006 through a palimpsest of disciplines related to wellness and performing arts. The teaching staff promotes both professional and amateur training, providing lessons for all age groups.
Danza Movimento Naturale method was created in 2005 by Giovanni Zappulla, who is choreographer, dancer and artistic director. Giovanni's long stay in France - precisely at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Boulogne-Billancourt and at the RIDC (Rencontres Internationales de Danse Contemporaine) - led him to deepen the path already taken by the dancer Isadora Duncan (1877-1827).
The Zappulla DMN Company was founded in 2015 in Palermo from the experience of the previous company L'espace and is dedicated to promoting and disseminating contemporary dance locally, nationally and internationally. This company is based at Centro Xinergie in Palermo, where cultural activities in continuity with its artistic and pedagogical goals take place: contemporary dance, contact improvisation, theater and music, Qigong and Chen style Taijiquan.
Directed by Giovanni Zappulla, it is a multidisciplinary festival
multidisciplinary festival with a special focus on avant-garde contemporary dance
and research, this year in its second edition, will be realised within
of the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa with the support of the City of Palermo,
the Institut Français, the Centro Cervantes and the collaboration of the Quarto Tempo association.
We will participate in the final workshop of the Dance Highways project and perform the show
Wunderkammer by choreographer Giovanni Zappulla in the Theater der Klange venue.

for children and adolescents. In 1998 he created the Arteos company in Paris and in 2001 he returned

dance company l'espace with which he creates the shows Lezioni di Volo, L'Aviateur, Coming Soon and Tech

will take on tour for the Energie Alter-native festival. In 2015, he created the company Zappulla
DMN that works to promote and disseminate contemporary dance locally, nationally
and international spheres. The company is based at the Xinergie Centre in Palermo, where they carry out
cultural activities of various kinds: contemporary dance, contact improvisation, theatre and music,
Qigong and Taijiquan Chen style.
.
What drives the company's commitment is its passion for dance,
through a choreographic production and a high-level pedagogical training commitment based
on the innovative Natural Movement Dance method. This method was devised by Giovanni Zappulla
and represents a training possibility in the contemporary choreographic field; it is based on a
holistic vision of the individual and draws on the oriental knowledge of Taijiquan and Qigong
working on the multiple aspects of the human being to awaken their potential, re-establish
physical and emotional connections for a strongly expressive and performative result. The fruit
of the method's work can be seen in the creations he has been staging since 2016: Apollo and Daphne,
Memories from the future and Natural Landscape, the latter born from an international collaboration
with the M.I.M. Arte Escenico (Mexico City), Istituto Nacional
de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and Secretaria de Cultura in Mexico City. Since 2017
he has been CSEN provincial manager for the DANCE sector. He is currently involved in the
dissemination of the show Wunderkammer, and in the creation of Love You - man's love.
In addition, the company is a winner of the European projects Dance Highways and Viral Visions aimed at
the creation of an international network for the dissemination of avant-garde and
and research choreographic culture and thanks to which the Dissidanza 2021 festival was created in
partnership with the associations l'espace and Quarto tempo, the French, German and Spanish cultural institutes
