Welcome to the choreography centre L'espace Palermo
Continuous creative workshop
Founded in 2005 by Giovanni Zappulla and Annachiara Trigili, the Choreographic Centre
L'espace is a space for artistic production and confrontation. A propelling centre
in which the Natural Movement Dance method comes to life and develops,
the result of more than twenty years of dancers' and choreographers' work on energy
the body and movement. In this context, the Zappulla DMN company in permanent residence
permanent residency, creates an artistic environment of excellence that allows professionals
amateurs and spectators to explore dance in its most varied, sometimes unexpected
declinations: choreographic platforms, performances and interdisciplinary
public rehearsals. But also continuing education and internships with external teachers, conferences
debates, video screenings, thematic evenings. The Xinergie project was born from the meeting
of the associations L'espace and Quarto Tempo. Together, these realities participate
actively in the development of Sicilian cultural life through production
training and awareness-raising of users. Xinergie is therefore a place to live
that offers the opportunity for anyone who wants to relate to the universe of performance
dance and contemporary art.
L'espace ASDC has been involved in training since 2006 through a palimpsest of disciplines related to wellness and the performing arts. The teaching staff is engaged in both professional and amateur training, providing teaching for all age groups.
The Natural Movement Dance method was created in 2005 by Giovanni Zappulla, choreographer, dancer
and artistic director. Giovanni's long stay in France - at the National Conservatory of Music and
Dance in Boulogne Billancourt and at the Ridc (Rencontres Internationales de danse contemporaine)
- led him to deepen the path already taken by the dancer Isadora Duncan (1877-1827).
Born in 2015 in Palermo from the experience
of the previous company L'espace, it works to promote and disseminate
contemporary dance locally, nationally and internationally.
The company is based at the Xinergie Centre in Palermo, where it carries out
cultural activities in continuity with the
artistic and pedagogical objectives: contemporary dance, contact improvisation
theatre and music, Qigong and Taijiquan Chen style.
Directed by Giovanni Zappulla, it is a multidisciplinary festival
multidisciplinary festival with a special focus on avant-garde contemporary dance
and research, this year in its second edition, will be realised within
of the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa with the support of the City of Palermo,
the Institut Français, the Centro Cervantes and the collaboration of the Quarto Tempo association.
Born in Palermo on 13 October 1973 dancer and choreographer, trained at the Conservatoire
National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Boulogne Billancourt (Paris), and obtained in June 1999
his French degree at L' R.I.D.C. (rencontres internationale de danse contemporaine
founded by Françoise and Dominique Dupuy and directed by Brigitte Hyon) becoming professor
of contemporary dance. He is a Qigong Operator with a national diploma issued by CSEN;
Qigong Operator and teacher FISTQ (Italian Federation of Tuina and Qigong Schools);
2nd level Taijiquan Chen style instructor (national diploma issued by CSEN)
and student of Master Wang Hai Jun (12th generation of the style).
He has danced in various French companies including Gigi Caciuleanu and Ruxandra Racovitza
and for the Choreographic Centre
Vallée D'Or directed by Serge Keuten, where he also organised choreographic workshops
for children and adolescents. In 1998 he created the Arteos company in Paris and in 2001 he returned
to Palermo to stage the show Coin café, a piece for four dancers and an actress,
at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo. In 2006 he was the creator and promoter of the Centre
Choreographic Centre L'espace for which he is artistic and pedagogical director and of the company
dance company l'espace with which he creates the shows Lezioni di Volo, L'Aviateur, Coming Soon and Tech
no trash, the latter a show on recycling and the promotion of renewable energies that
will take on tour for the Energie Alter-native festival. In 2015, he created the company Zappulla
DMN that works to promote and disseminate contemporary dance locally, nationally
and international spheres. The company is based at the Xinergie Centre in Palermo, where they carry out
cultural activities of various kinds: contemporary dance, contact improvisation, theatre and music,
Qigong and Taijiquan Chen style.
What drives the company's commitment is its passion for dance,
through a choreographic production and a high-level pedagogical training commitment based
on the innovative Natural Movement Dance method. This method was devised by Giovanni Zappulla
and represents a training possibility in the contemporary choreographic field; it is based on a
holistic vision of the individual and draws on the oriental knowledge of Taijiquan and Qigong
working on the multiple aspects of the human being to awaken their potential, re-establish
physical and emotional connections for a strongly expressive and performative result. The fruit
of the method's work can be seen in the creations he has been staging since 2016: Apollo and Daphne,
Memories from the future and Natural Landscape, the latter born from an international collaboration
with the M.I.M. Arte Escenico (Mexico City), Istituto Nacional
de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and Secretaria de Cultura in Mexico City. Since 2017
he has been CSEN provincial manager for the DANCE sector. He is currently involved in the
dissemination of the show Wunderkammer, and in the creation of Love You - man's love.
In addition, the company is a winner of the European projects Dance Highways and Viral Visions aimed at
the creation of an international network for the dissemination of avant-garde and
and research choreographic culture and thanks to which the Dissidanza 2021 festival was created in
partnership with the associations l'espace and Quarto tempo, the French, German and Spanish cultural institutes
German and Spanish cultural institutes and the municipality of Palermo.
